President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in Astana for the 24th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, met with President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

Delivering remarks to the press during the meeting, President Erdoğan said: "We couldn't meet with my friend for a long time. Yet, we have had telephone diplomacy in the meantime, with our friends in constant contact. Our respective ministers of interior, treasury and finance, and energy and natural resources have maintained their talks without interruption."

"WE ARE HOLDING TALKS ABOUT SİNOP NUCLEAR POWER PLANT"

Noting that Türkiye and Russia are jointly building Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, President Erdoğan stated: "Our desire is to complete it and make it operational as soon as possible. We are also holding talks about Sinop Nuclear Power Plant. We believe we can take serious steps on this issue. Our Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources continues its talks with its counterpart. At the same time, the talks between BOTAŞ and Gazprom continue in a sincere manner. However, as you have also expressed, the $55 billion of volume is not quite significant. We aim to achieve $100 billion, which I believe we can reach. We have the potential to do so."

"IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO HOST RUSSIAN TOURISTS IN TÜRKİYE"

President Erdoğan continued his remarks as follows: "As regards tourism, it is very important for us that about 7 million Russian tourists have visited our country. It is important for us to host Russian tourists in Türkiye. Our sincerity on this issue continues with the same level of determination. We will preserve this as it is. We just hope that Russian tourists are pleased with Türkiye. We are good and strong as a destination and we will remain so. Besides the warm relations between Türkiye and Russia, I expect to host you in my country as soon as possible."
