Presidency of The Republic of Turkey
02.06.2024
Delivering the closing speech of the AK Party's 31st Consultation and Assessment Meeting, President Erdoğan said: "We are sincere about and open to discussion for a new constitution. And we do not approve of this issue being turned into a political arm wrestling. Let us all together sit, talk, join forces and free Türkiye of the shame of the post-coup constitution with the broadest consensus."
President and Justice and Development (AK) Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the closing of the party's 31st Consultation and Assessment Meeting in Ankara.
Underscoring that the massacre ongoing for nearly eight months in Gaza has been on top of their agenda at the meeting, President Erdoğan noted: "The massacre in Palestine has been continuing uninterruptedly for 76 years. The Palestinian children have been killed by a spoilt state for 76 years. The barbarity witnessed in Gaza since October 7 has made the atrocity suffered by the Palestinian people every day for 76 years be seen by the rest of the world."
Pointing out that they as Türkiye object to this massacre on every platform, President Erdoğan added: "We have and will continue to stand tall with the Palestinian people with all our means. No pressure, threat or impudence could change this."
Drawing attention to Hamas' positive stance towards US President Biden's recent ceasefire proposal, President Erdoğan noted: "Netanyahu's response to that has been to shed more blood, conduct massacre, and to intensify his policy of occupation and genocide. All must say 'stop' to this barbarian, this outlaw, this bloodthirsty called Netanyahu, who is dragging our region and the entire world together with its own country into a big disaster."
Pointing to the uninterrupted aid Türkiye has been sending to Gaza, President Erdoğan said: "We are in close contact with Hamas and the Palestinian government. We strongly support the efforts aimed at recognizing the independent Palestinian state. The number of the countries that have recognized Palestine, including Spain, Ireland and Norway has increased 147. Further increase of this number would be the most appropriate response to Israel's policy of occupation and oppression."
Stating that a new and civilian constitution will be a locomotive for the future of Türkiye, President Erdoğan said: "We are sincere about and open to discussion for a new constitution. And we do not approve of this issue being turned into a political arm wrestling. Let us all together sit, talk, join forces and free Türkiye of the shame of the post-coup constitution with the broadest consensus."
