Holding a press conference before departing for the U.S. to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Erdoğan said: "Türkiye's diplomatic moves for peace and stability in its region are appreciated. We want to make use of this positive atmosphere towards our country in a manner that would contribute to our goal of high-quality growth through investments, production, employment and current account surplus."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference at Atatürk Airport in Istanbul before leaving for the U.S. to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

"WE WILL STRESS THE CRITICAL ROLE TÜRKİYE PLAYS IN THE FACE OF CURRENT GLOBAL CHALLENGES"

Noting that he will address the General Assembly on September 19, the first day of the debates, President Erdoğan said that he will tell in his speech Türkiye's steps regarding development, humanitarian aid, international peace and security, and global solidarity.

Stressing that he will also share his opinions on other global issues, President Erdoğan said: "We will stress the critical role Türkiye plays in the face of current global challenges. We are pleased to see that our statement, 'the World is bigger than five,' which we highlight at every platform, has gained larger acceptance. Lastly, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has displayed a very clear stance on this issue. We agree with Mr. Guterres' statement to the effect that structures created in the aftermath of the World War II do not reflect today's world. I will express this to him personally during our meeting. I will hold talks with a large number of counterparts besides the UN Secretary-General on the margins of the General Assembly."

President Erdoğan added that he will also come together with Turkish citizens and kinsmen living in the U.S., as well as with think-tank representatives during his visit.

Pointing out that he will also discuss potential steps to be taken in order for leading U.S. businesspeople to boost their investments in Türkiye, President Erdoğan said: "The diplomatic maturity displayed during the May 14-28 elections in our country has increased business communities' interest in Türkiye. International investors have great confidence in our cabinet and economic team as well as in the Medium Term Programme we have unveiled a short while ago. Our reserves have increased by 22 billion dollars over the past three months alone. Our Central Bank's gross reserves have surpassed 120 billion dollars as of today. The announcement made last week by the World Bank is another example of the confidence in our country. New ones will follow soon."

"WE ARE DETERMINED TO TURN THE CURRENT PERIOD INTO AN OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR NATION"

President Erdoğan stated: "Türkiye's diplomatic moves for peace and stability in its region are appreciated. We want to make use of this positive atmosphere towards our country in a manner that would contribute to our goal of high-quality growth through investments, production, employment and current account surplus."

"We make, and will continue to make, every effort both at home and abroad in order to realize our Century of Türkiye vision. We are determined to turn this period, in which the order of the global system is disrupted, into an opportunity for our country and nation," the President said.

"WE WILL CLOSELY FOLLOW THE DEVELOPMENTS"

President Erdoğan answered reporters' questions following his speech.

In response to a question about Karabakh, President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye's proposal to address the issue in a four-way meeting of Russian, Azerbaijani, Turkish and Armenian leaders has yet to receive a response, adding that Türkiye will closely follow the developments.

In answer to a question about Sweden's NATO membership process, President Erdoğan underlined that Sweden needs to fulfill its responsibilities. Noting that it is not enough for Sweden to draft the law but that it must also be implemented, President Erdoğan stated that if terrorists are able to hold demonstrations under police protection, then it means that Sweden doesn't fulfill its responsibilities and doesn't keep its promises. President Erdoğan further stressed that it is up to the Turkish parliament to make a decision on the issue.

In response to a question about the European Parliament's latest report on Türkiye, President Erdoğan stated: "Dear friends, if you really want to learn my assessment, the EU is trying to break away from Türkiye. During this period, in which the EU makes moves to break away from Türkiye, we will make our evaluations in the face of these developments. After these evaluations, we can part ways with the EU if necessary."
