The Turkish operation aimed at liberation of the northern Syrian city of al-Bab from Daesh terrorist group is close to its end, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday.

ANKARA (Sputnik) – On August 24, the Turkish army launched the operation Euphrates Shield against Daesh.

"We have completed almost everything in al-Bab. Our army and the Syrian opposition are close to resolving the situation there," Erdogan said at the ceremony of opening a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Izmir.

Turkish forces, with assistance from Syrian opposition fighters, occupied the city of Jarabulus in northern Syria and are currently conducting its offensive on al-Bab. According to Erdogan, the aim of the operation was to clear the region from terrorists and to make it into a safety zone for refugees.
