In response to a question regarding the US State Department's approval of a fresh round of arms sales to Taiwan with a total value of approximately $330 million, including non-standard spare parts for aircraft and repair services, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson said on late Monday that the US arms sales to China's Taiwan region seriously violate the one-China principle and the three US-China joint communiqués, constitute a blatant interference in China's internal affairs, undermine China's sovereignty and security interests, and send a gravely wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.

We are strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposed to this, and have lodged stern representations to the US, spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang said in a statement.

The spokesperson said that it must be stressed that "supporting Taiwan with weapons" will only lead to fires burning those playing with it and attempts to contain China with Taiwan are doomed to fail.

Zhang urged the US to immediately stop the reprehensible action of arming Taiwan and avoid impacting and undermining the bilateral and mil-to-mil relations.

In addition, the DPP authorities are solemnly warned that squandering hard-earned money of people in Taiwan on weapons is like "quenching a thirst with poison" and that seeking "independence" by relying on external forces and using weapons to resist reunification are doomed to fail. "We will take all necessary measures to resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Zhang said.
