Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated at Monday's regular press conference that the Japanese leader had recently made erroneous remarks regarding Taiwan in the Diet, implying the possibility of military intervention in the Taiwan Straits. This constituted a crude interference in China's internal affairs and a serious violation of the one-China principle, the spirit of the four China-Japan political documents, and the basic norms of international relations, and was completely inconsistent with the political commitments Japan had made.

"Its nature and impact were extremely egregious. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition, and has lodged stern representations and strong protests with the Japanese side," said the spokesperson.

These remarks were made in response to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's claim at a hearing in Japan's legislature, the Diet, that Japan would be in a "survival-threatening situation" if Chinese mainland send war ships and uses military force on Taiwan, and that such a situation would allow the Self-Defense Forces to exercise collective self-defense under Japanese law.

Lin said that Taiwan is China's Taiwan, and how to resolve the Taiwan question and achieve national reunification is purely China's internal affair and does not allow any external interference. He questioned what signal the Japanese leader intended to send to "Taiwan independence" forces with these remarks, whether she was attempting to challenge China's core interests and obstruct China's reunification, and where she intended to take China-Japan relations.

Lin stated that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration. Japan once imposed colonial rule on Taiwan island and committed countless crimes. The current Japanese authorities' attempt to intervene in Taiwan Straits affairs is not only a trampling of international justice and a provocation against the post-war international order, but also a serious damage to China-Japan relations.

China will ultimately be reunified, and it must be reunified. The Chinese people have firm resolve, full confidence, and sufficient capability to resolutely crush all schemes that attempt to interfere with or obstruct China's reunification. China urges Japan to immediately stop interfering in China's internal affairs, stop provocative actions that cross the line, and not go further down the wrong path, Lin added.
