China lodges solemn representations with relevant countries over visit of head of foreign affairs department of Taiwan authorities to Europe: FM

Responding to a visit of the so-called head of the foreign affairs department of the Taiwan authorities to Europe, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Friday that the island of Taiwan is a province of China. "The person you just mentioned is merely a local foreign affairs official of China," the spokesperson said.

Lin stated that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Taiwan question concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. China has always firmly opposed countries that have established diplomatic relations with China engaging in any form of official exchanges with the Taiwan region of China, and firmly opposes providing platforms for the activities of "Taiwan independence" elements, Lin added.

China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this, and has lodged solemn representations with the relevant countries. "We urge relevant European countries to abide by the one-China principle and immediately take effective measures to prevent visits by 'Taiwan independence' elements. We also warn the Taiwan regional authorities that 'Taiwan independence' is a dead-end path, and any attempt to create 'two Chinas' or 'one China, one Taiwan' in the international community is doomed to fail," Lin said.
