Taiwan media quoted Reuters as saying that the US government may seek stakes in TSMC. Economic officials in Taiwan island said there has been no specific countermeasures regarding the US move, sparking widespread concerns across the industry in the island that the US actions could undermine the island's industrial foundation. Answering a question concerning this, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday that the island business community's concerns reflect so many lessons from the past.
"The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, driven by selfish interests, have capitulated to US demands, groveled to the US, and even acted as accomplices in selling out the island' interests without bottom line. The DPP's move will harm the interests and welling-being of the enterprises and residents in Taiwan," Zhu said.
