Regarding reports that the regional leader of China's Taiwan island Lai Ching-te recently claimed that next year Taiwan's "defense budget" would be raised to over 3 percent of GDP, which some analysis said is made in response to US concerns, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin asked that "Taiwan is a province of China - where does a so-called 'national defense budget' come from?"
Ignoring the livelihood and welfare of the island's residents, Lai and his ilk, in order to "seek independence by relying on foreign forces," kowtow to the US and sell out Taiwan without any bottom line, Jiang said on Friday.
They not only package the exploitation and suppression of tariffs as negotiation results to deceive the island public, but also plan to squander the hard-earned money of ordinary Taiwan residents to pay the US a "protection fee." In the end, they will only be devoured like a lamb in a tiger's den, losing everything, the spokesperson said.
