In response to former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson visiting Taiwan who has called on Western countries to build economic relations with Taiwan, the Chinese Embassy in the UK said on Tuesday local time that it strongly opposes any visit to Taiwan by British politicians under any pretext, noting that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. Taiwan affairs are purely China's internal affairs and brook no external interference.

At present, the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits is the separatist provocations by the Taiwan authorities, a spokesperson from the embassy said, adding that China will never allow anyone to separate Taiwan from the rest of the country in any way, nor will China tolerate any external attempt to obstruct its complete reunification.

The embassy urged the British politician concerned to stop emboldening the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, cease interfering in China's internal affairs, and refrain from going further down the wrong path.

During a forum in the island of Taiwan on Tuesday, former British prime minister Boris Johnson made reckless remarks such as "Beijing had engaged in intensified military activities," claiming it an effort to bully Taiwan region into submission. An expert said that in order to justify the treatment afforded to him by Taiwan, Johnson's so-called praise for the island can be seen as a compromise of personal integrity and a detriment to national dignity.
