Taiwan's national security agency appoints new deputy chief

Taipei, Aug. 5 (CNA) Chen Sung-chi (陳松吉), a former head prosecutor at the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office with experience in law enforcement and anti-corruption investigations, has been appointed deputy director-general of the National Security Bureau (NSB), the bureau said Tuesday.
The appointment, approved by NSB Director-General Tsai Ming-yen (蔡明彥), took effect the same day.
The NSB said the personnel change was made to support ongoing intelligence operations and national security work.
Chen previously served as a chief prosecutor at district prosecutors offices in Hsinchu, Chiayi, Miaoli and Taitung, the bureau said, and he also held senior roles at the Agency Against Corruption's Central Investigation Office and at the Investigation Bureau's Civil Service Ethics Office.
Chen graduated from Central Police College and completed his professional training at the Ministry of Justice's Judicial Training Institute, the bureau said.
The bureau said Tsai plans to draw on Chen's expertise to improve coordination between agencies involved in intelligence, prosecutions, investigations and military counterintelligence.
Chen will also assist in planning intelligence and counterintelligence strategies for major cases involving technology theft, talent poaching, and violations of trade secrets attributed to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Illegal activities linked to CCP influence operations and infiltration pose a growing threat to Taiwan, the agency said.
Huang Ming-chao (黃明昭), the former NSB deputy director-general, has been appointed president of Central Police University, according to the bureau.
