When asked for comments on reports saying that a top Republican lawmaker will lead a congressional delegation to Taiwan in August, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Thursday that China has always firmly opposed any form of official exchanges between the US and China's Taiwan region.
There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, Guo said.
China urges the US to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, stop interfering in China's internal affairs under any pretext, stop conniving at and supporting "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, stop official exchanges between the US and the Taiwan region, and stop creating tensions in the Taiwan Straits, Guo emphasized.
