In response to an inquiry about the US House of Representatives recently passing the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, which includes $500 million for the so-called Taiwan Security Cooperation Initiative to provide Taiwan with defensive equipment as well as military education and training assistance, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday that the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair and tolerates no external interference.

Some members of the US Congress have insisted on inserting negative Taiwan-related provisions into this legislation, grossly meddling in China's internal affairs and seriously violating the one China principle and the provisions of the three China-US Joint Communiqués. They are sending the wrong signal to "Taiwan independence" separatists. We firmly oppose this, said Chen.

The Taiwan question is the foremost, inviolable red line in China-US relations. The US side must honor its political commitments on Taiwan question, cease deliberation of such measures, and stop interfering in China's internal affairs, Chen said.

We also sternly warn the DPP authorities that no matter how many weapons they procure from the US, they will not shake our firm determination to resolve the Taiwan question and achieve national reunification, nor will they hinder our strong capability to crush "Taiwan independence" separatism and safeguard China's territorial integrity, said the spokesperson.
