KMT names media personality Jaw Shau-kong as Hou's running mate

Taipei, Nov. 24 (CNA) The opposition Kuomintang (KMT) has picked Taiwan's Broadcasting Corporation of China Chairman Jaw Shau-kong (趙少康) as its vice presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
Jaw, 73, a media personality and former legislator of New Party, will run alongside Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜), who leads the ticket, the KMT announced at its headquarters during a Central Standing Committee meeting on Friday.
Hou said the KMT had been hoping for collaboration with the TPP and was waiting until the last moment, but "the time has come" to move on.
"We must select a vice president to stand side by side in battle. The most formidable, capable, and combat-ready candidate is Jaw Shau-kong," Hou said, as he introduced Jaw.
Hou and Jaw will formally register their candidacy at Central Election Commission before noon on Friday, the party said.
The KMT's announcement came after the breakdown of discussions on a joint ticket with Taiwan People's Party the previous day.
