Taipei, Oct. 8 (CNA) Nauru President Russ Joseph Kun said Sunday that his visit to Taiwan is meant to offer his country's congratulations to the Republic of China national day.

Upon arriving at the Taoyuan International Airport at 5:30 a.m., President Kun said he would like to thank President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) for inviting him and his governmental delegation to celebrate the upcoming Republic of China (Taiwan) National Day celebrations.

Kun said he would like to "congratulate the people of Taiwan for this special day coming up" on October 10th.

Kun and his 17-member-delegation, including Minister for Education Richard-Hyde Menke, Substantive Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade Dominic Joselito Tabuna, Deputy Minister for Land Management Jason Bingham Agir, and several Parliament members, arrived in the airport to the welcome of Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮).

Aside from attending a series of events celebrating the ROC's 112th birthday and meeting with President Tsai, the Pacific island ally leader will also deliver an opening address at the annual Yushan Forum in Taipei from Oct. 11 to 12, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

The Yushan Forum, launched in 2017 as part of the government's New Southbound Policy, is organized by MOFA and the Taipei-based NGO Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation.

Launched by the current Democratic Progressive Party government in 2017, the policy aims to increase exchanges between Taiwan and neighboring Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states, as well as India, Australia and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Susan D. Dougan, governor-general of the ROC's Caribbean ally Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, arrived in Taiwan late Saturday to attend the country's National Day celebrations

In addition to taking part in the celebrations, Dougan will also meet with Tsai and attend a dinner hosted by Wu during her visit from Oct. 7-11, MOFA said in a press release.

The two senior officials are among the guests invited by MOFA to attend the ROC national day events.

A Japanese parliamentary group promoting the Taiwan-Japan relations is visiting Taiwan from Oct. 7-10 to attend the National Day celebrations.

The 42-member Japan-ROC Diet Members' Consultative Council delegation, led by its chair Keiji Furuya, will be the largest foreign group to visit the country to attend a series of Double Ten National Day celebrations, according to MOFA.
