Taipei, June 25 (CNA) The Belize defense minister will lead a delegation on his first trip to Taiwan Monday through Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced Sunday.

Minister of National Defense and Border Security Florencio Marin will visit various locations in Taiwan, including the Ministry of Defense, the National Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST), which is Taiwan's top military research unit, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ocean Affairs Council and local shipbuilding companies, MOFA said in a press release.

Other members of the six-member delegation include Christopher Coye, who is the minister of state in the Ministry of Finance and Dario Tapia, the chief executive officer of the Ministry of Defense and Border Security, according to MOFA.

A veteran political figure in the People's United Party, and Belize more generally, Marin previously served as deputy prime minister under George Cadle Price, as well as deputy leader of the opposition.

Taiwan, officially named the Republic of China, established official diplomatic ties with the Central American country in 1989.
