EU parliamentarians, Polish lawmakers visit Taiwan

Taipei, June 18 (CNA) A seven-member delegation from the European Parliament and a 10-member delegation from the lower house of the bicameral parliament of Poland are currently in Taiwan to boost exchanges, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

The former group, led by Rasa Juknevičienė, vice-chair of the EU Parliament's Subcommittee on Security and Defense, will visit Taiwan from Sunday to June 23, MOFA said in a statement.

The delegation, comprising members from subcommittees of Foreign Affairs, Economic and Monetary Affairs, among others, will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), according to MOFA.

Delegates will also visit Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) and National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo (顧立雄) during their stay, and exchange views with local experts from the fields of security, defense and foreign affairs, the ministry said.

The Polish delegation, meanwhile, will be led by Barbara Bartuś, vice chairwoman of the Polish lower house's Foreign Affairs Committee, and its delegates will visit Taiwan from Sunday to June 22, MOFA said in another statement.

The delegation, comprising parliamentarians across Poland's major political parties, will also meet with Tsai and Wu, according to MOFA.

In addition, they will visit MOFA, the Legislative Yuan, the Mainland Affairs Council and the National Development Council to gain a better understanding of Taiwan-China relations, regional security, technology, trade and ways to better assist Ukraine in its war against Russia, the ministry said.

Presidential Office spokeswoman Kolas Yotaka has confirmed Tsai will receive the Polish delegation at the office on Monday.
