Taipei, April 10 (CNA) A 10-member Canadian parliamentary delegation arrived in Taiwan on Monday for a week-long visit that will include meetings with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and other senior government officials, according to the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei.

The multi-party delegation comprises several top lawmakers in the areas of defense and foreign relations, MP John McKay, chair of the parliament's Committee on National Defense, told CNA in an interview on April 7.

It includes, for instance, Stéphane Bergeron, vice chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, and Ken Hardie, chair of the Special Committee on the Canada-People's Republic of China Relationship, McKay said.

During their visit, the parliamentarians will meet with President Tsai and Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), as well as with representatives of the business community and local NGOs, the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei said in a Facebook post.

The lawmakers are also scheduled to visit the National Palace Museum and a Canadian Indigenous art exhibition at Taipei's Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines, the office said.

The trip is the second by a Canadian parliamentary group since the onset of COVID-19, and follows the visit of a delegation led by Liberal Party MP Judy Sgro last October.
