Taipei, July 3 (CNA) Taiwan's Army will begin a live-fire exercise in Pingtung County on Monday, featuring all of its helicopters models, to test its combat readiness, according to a military source.

The annual "Mighty Eagle" exercise will be conducted by the Army Aviation and Special Forces Command, Monday to Wednesday, at Pingtung's Jiupeng military base, the source told CNA.

All of the Army's helicopter series will take part in the exercises, the source said, listing the attack AH-64E Apache and AH-1W Super Cobra, the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior Scout, the CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift, and UH-1H utility choppers.

During the daytime hours of the drill, the helicopters will fire canons and Hellfire and Stinger missiles at targets at sea and in the air, while at night the Apaches will fire Hellfire missiles, according to the source.

The annual "Mighty Eagle" exercise is the Army Aviation and Special Forces Command's major helicopter drill, and it is usually held in the second half of the year, testing the choppers capabilities with precision weapon systems.
