Taipei, June 7 (CNA) Taiwanese shipbuilder CSBC Corp. on Tuesday denied a report that the company received leaked information on submarine building from South Korean tech advisory firm SI.

The denial came after South Korean newspaper Chosunilbo reported earlier in the day that SI provided CSBC with information about the design of the the Jang Bogo class submarine, a variant of the Type 209 diesel-electric attack submarine initially developed by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft of Germany, used by the South Korean Navy.

CSBC, which is responsible for ship building for Taiwan under the country's indigenous submarine program, said the submarine the company built is a 2,000 ton displacement vessel, whereas the Jang Bogo class submarine has a 3,000 ton displacement.

Citing the different displacements in its submarine and the Korean model, CSBC said the two vessels have completely different structures despite the role played by SI in the Taiwanese shipbuilder's indigenous warship program.

In addition, CSBC said the equipment and rudder installed in its submarine and the Jang Bogo class submarine are quite different so the Korean warship design could not have been employed to build the submarines manufactured by the Taiwanese shipbuilder.

CSBC said the company has never purchased submarine components such as decanters and battery compartments from any South Korea suppliers. Moreover, the company added that its subsidiaries are able to develop highly efficient battery equipment.

The Taiwanese shipbuilder emphasized that submarines built under the indigenous submarine program were designed in their entirety by the company and that the Chosunilbo report is without foundation.
