Taipei, April 6 (CNA) A Taiwan legislative friendship group aimed at building closer ties with Poland was officially inaugurated at the Legislative Yuan Wednesday.

Cyryl Kozaczewski, Poland's top envoy to Taiwan, told an inauguration ceremony for the Taiwan-Poland Inter-Parliamentary Aminty Association that he hoped the group could help further bilateral economic cooperation.

Kozaczewski added that Taiwan and Poland had shown they were like-minded partners in their responses to the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Polish envoy thanked Taiwan for sending humanitarian relief to Poland, which has taken in around 2.5 million Ukrainian refugees, adding that his country could send representatives to Taiwan in the near future to explore economic cooperation.

Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmaker Lin Ching-yi (林靜儀), the association's chairwoman, said that while COVID-19 had made it difficult for physical meetings, she hoped there would be more parliamentary exchanges in the second half of 2022.

Meanwhile, Lin Jih-jia (林志嘉), secretary-general of the Legislative Yuan, said Legislative Speaker You Si-kun (游錫堃) could visit Poland this year.

You is rumored to be planning a visit to meet with Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil, who visited Taiwan in 2020.

Lin said that if You did visit Europe, Poland could be included in his itinerary.
