Taipei, July 7 (CNA) Taiwan's Institute for National Defense Security Research (INDSR) said Wednesday it has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Czech think tank to strengthen exchanges and cooperation on research in the areas of security and national defense.

The INDSR, established by Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense, said in a statement that it inked the MOU on June 30 in a virtual ceremony with the Czech Republic's European Values Center (EVC) for Security Policy.

The representatives from the two think tanks who attended the virtual signing ceremony included INDSR Chief Executive Officer Lin Chen-wei (林成蔚) and Deputy CEOs Po Hung-hui (柏鴻輝) and Ou Hsi-fu (歐錫富), as well as EVC Director Jakub Janda and Richard Kraemer, head of its Taiwan office that is slated to open in Taipei in the near future, according to the statement.

At the ceremony, Janda said Taiwan and the Czech Republic have common values of democracy, and through the MOU, the EVC will share European perspectives to deepen the bilateral cooperation.

The MOU marks the start of official cooperation between the Taiwan and Czech think tanks and the opening of a channel and platform for exchanges, Janda said.
