The Chinese mainland has listed deterrence against secessionist activities by "Taiwan independence" forces and interference by foreign forces as key work arrangements for the year 2021, said China's top political advisor at an annual work conference on Taiwan affairs.
The mainland will uphold the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, resolutely deter secessionist activities by "Taiwan independence" forces and interference by foreign forces, and actively promote the peaceful, integrating development of cross-Straits relations, and push forward the progress of reunification, Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, said at the conference in Beijing held from Sunday to Monday, China Central Television reported.
As the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, the situation in the Taiwan Straits remains severe and complicated, and work on Taiwan affairs is facing new changes in terms of opportunities and challenges, Wang said.
Time and momentum are on our side, Wang stressed.
China will fully display its determination and will in safeguarding national sovereignty, safety and development interests, and will not allow any individual or force to separate Taiwan from China in any way, the senior official said.
The Chinese mainland will also support businesspeople and companies from Taiwan in seizing opportunities in the country's new development and participating in the implementation of the 14th Five-Year-Plan, Wang said, noting that the mainland will break the restrictions and obstructions put up by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party in cross-Straits communication and cooperation.
