Taipei, Dec. 19 (CNA) The USS Mustin, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Saturday, the 12th this year that such passage has been carried out by an American warship.
In a statement, the U.S. Seventh Fleet said the USS Mustin conducted a routine Taiwan Strait transit in accordance with international law.
"The ship's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The United States military will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows," the statement read.
According to Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense, the U.S. vessel entered the Taiwan Strait from the north and headed in a southerly direction.
The last time a U.S. warship navigated the Taiwan Strait was on Nov. 21.
