Taipei, Dec. 10 (CNA) A Chinese Y-8 electronic warfare plane entered Taiwan's southwest air defense identification zone (ADIZ) Thursday morning -- the eighth such intrusion this month, according to the Ministry of National Defense (MND).

In response to the incident, which has become an almost daily occurrence in recent months amid escalating cross-strait tensions, Taiwan's Air Force scrambled jets to chase away the Chinese aircraft, issued radio warnings and mobilized air defense systems to monitor its movements, the MND said in a statement. The latest intrusion brings the number of times Chinese military planes have entered the ADIZ in December to eight, following Dec. 1-2, Dec. 4-7, and Dec. 9, according to the defense ministry.

On Sept. 17, the ministry established a section on its official website that details the movements of Chinese military planes near Taiwan.
