U.S. warship transits through Taiwan Strait

Taipei, Nov. 21 (CNA) The USS Barry, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Saturday, the 11th time this year that such passage has been carried out by an American warship.

In a statement, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) said the U.S. vessel entered the Taiwan Strait from the north and headed in a southerly direction.

It added that Taiwan's military was monitoring the situation in the region and did not detect any abnormalities during the maneuver.

According to a Facebook post by the U.S. Seventh Fleet, the USS Barry conducted a routine Taiwan Strait transit in accordance with international law.

"The ship's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The U.S. Navy will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows," the post read.

The last time the USS Barry navigated the Taiwan Strait was on Oct. 14.
