Taipei, Nov. 8 (CNA) Taiwan's Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) on Sunday congratulated Joe Biden on winning the U.S. presidential election, saying Taiwan-U.S. relations will flourish under his administration.
While speaking to reporters on Sunday, Su congratulated Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris on their win, as well as the American people for once again exercising their democratic right to vote.
With years of friendship and partnership between Taiwan and the U.S., as well as the democratic values shared by the two sides, Biden's administration will definitely value Taiwan more, and the relationship between the two countries will flourish, Su said.
When asked about progress on a trade deal between Taiwan and the U.S., Su sidestepped the question, saying instead that Taiwan's response to the COVID-19 pandemic has allowed the country to continue to grow its economy.
The U.S. has also spoken up for Taiwan on numerous occasions, and the two sides will work to further advance Taiwan-U.S. relations, Su said.
