Taipei, June 25 (CNA) The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) said Monday that President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) has shown her greatest goodwill to Beijing through her willingness to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The president has reaffirmed her commitment to stability across the Taiwan Strait by being willing to sit down and talk with Xi, DPP caucus whip Ho Hsin-chun (何欣純) said, though reiterating that such a meeting would have to be based on an equal footing with no political conditions attached.

Ho's comments came after Tsai's exclusive interview with AFP on Monday, during which she said there is still a chance for the two sides to sit down and talk despite escalating tensions.

Echoing the president's call, the DPP caucus whip called on the international community to stand up with Taiwan against China's aggression against democracy and freedom.
