Taipei, May 11 (CNA) The Indo-Pacific Affairs Section, a new unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) focused on promoting the government's New Southbound Policy, opened its doors Friday.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony for the section's name plaque, Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) said the ministry has been shuffling people and resources to best maximize efficiency since he took office in February.
The Indo-Pacific Affairs Section, an office under the MOFA's Department of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, is aimed at making the best use of limited human and other resources to promote the country's international policies in the Indo-Pacific region.
The establishment of the section, which will devote more people dedicated to the issue, not only strengthens the New Southbound Policy but truly aligns the policy with Taiwan's overall international strategy, Wu said.
