Taipei, May 4 (CNA) Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) said Friday that ties between Taiwan and its diplomatic allies, including the Holy See, are stable.

Taiwan maintains stable ties with all of its 19 allies, Wu told reporters prior to a legislative hearing.

"There is nothing we should be concerned about," he said, when asked about relations between Taiwan and the Vatican.

He said the Taiwan embassy in the Holy See will monitor any dialogue between the Vatican and China and will continue to keep close tabs on the latest developments.

Regarding the Dominican Republic's severance of diplomatic ties with Taiwan earlier in the week, Wu said the foreign ministry became aware of the rocky situation two years ago and tried everything to maintain healthy relations with the Caribbean country.

After the hearing, ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Wang Ting-yu (王定宇) told the media that he was urging the foreign ministry to keep a "close watch" on all of Taiwan's diplomatic allies because China will not cease its efforts to undermine Taiwan diplomatically.

Wang said the foreign ministry should not become too complacent about the "stable" concept but instead should think of how best to maintain Taiwan's interests and preserve its integrity on the international stage.
