Taipei, March 22 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文)said Wednesday that Taiwan is ready to take on a greater role in helping to ensure regional peace and collective security.

Addressing a dinner party hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei, the president said Taiwan's representative to the U.S. will soon attend an international conference on Iraq and Syria and commit the provision of mine-sweeping resources in an international effort.

In January, she added, Taiwan had donated a mobile hospital to help rebuild war-torn Iraq.

Tsai expressed her hope that bilateral relations between Taiwan and the United States will be elevated to an "upgraded version" of strategic partnership that will cover regional security, trade and economic cooperation.

A more strategic partnership on regional security, a wider-ranging cooperative relationship and a deeper mutual trust can all be achieved by confidence, she said.

On the same occasion, Kin Moy, director of the American Institute in Taiwan's (AIT) Taipei Office, announced that the United States and Taiwan have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation on combating intellectual property infringement and trade fraud crimes.
