Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) Lin Che-ling of the Democratic Progressive Party won the township chief by-election of Khohu in southern Taiwan's Yunlin County, stopping the party's losing streak in local by-elections since the DPP administration took power on May 20.
Lin gained 3,476 votes, beating three non-partisan candidates competing for the township office.
The DPP has lost three consecutive local by-elections -- township chief of Likang in Pintung County, southern Taiwan; township chief of Tienchung in central Taiwan's Changhua County; and Hualien City mayor of eastern Taiwan's Hualien County.
Lin pledged to do his best to cooperate with Yunlin Magistrate Lee Chin-yung, also a DPP member, to push for development his township.
