Taipei, Aug. 29 (CNA) Taiwan's military ended its annual Han Kuang exercises last week after conducting and completing 1,072 tests, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) said Monday.

The exercises, Taiwan's most important annual war games involving all three branches of the military, were held at several locations nationwide from Aug. 22 to 26 and included live-fire drills, said Major General Chung Shu-ming (鍾樹明), director of the MND's Joint Operation Division.

A total of 1,072 tests were completed, including 31 related to the verification of self-developed combat capabilities in fighting cyberattacks, Chung said, noting that 21 civilians were recruited for the drills aimed at boosting the military's online strength.

Drills were also held this year to test the combat capabilities of the AH-64E Apache attack helicopter and the UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter -- two recent additions to the Army -- as well as P-3C anti-submarine aircraft, the self-developed UAS unmanned air system and the CM-32 "Clouded Leopard" armored vehicle, Chung noted.

Each year, the Han Kuang exercises feature a set of live-fire drills that test the joint response by the Army, Navy and Air Force to simulated threats from China, according to the MND.
