Taipei, Jan. 22 (CNA) A pilot in the Republic of China (Taiwan) Air Force has been reported as missing after an F-16 fighter jet that he was flying crashed in the U.S. state of Arizona Thursday.

The pilot Kao Ting-cheng (高鼎程), a 2007 graduate of Taiwan's Air Force Academy, was in the U.S. on a routine training program, the ROC Air Force Command said Friday.

According to foreign wire service reports, U.S. military officials have said that the pilot, who was stationed at Luke Air Force base, was carrying out air-to-air combat maneuvers over Arizona when the plane went down.

The pilot is missing and presumed killed in the crash that occurred Thursday during routine air-to-air combat training maneuvers over northwestern Arizona, the reports said, citing U.S. military officials.

The Air Force Command said it is helping Kao's relatives travel to the U.S. and is sending U.S.-based Taiwanese officials to Luke Air Force Base near Phoenix to assist with the investigation into the crash.
