Taipei, Dec. 29 (CNA) A newly installed telephone hotline system connecting the heads of cross-Taiwan Strait affairs in Taiwan and China has completed testing and is almost ready to go, Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) chief Hsia Li-yan (夏立言) said Tuesday.
Hsia said he hoped the two sides will have their first conversation via the hotline 'within the next few days.'
The minister disclosed the information during a luncheon with reporters.
During his historic meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) in Singapore on Nov. 7, President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) proposed that a hotline be established between the heads of Taiwan's MAC and the mainland's Taiwan Affairs Office.
