China is resolutely opposed to any country's arms sale to Taiwan, said a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense (MND) commenting on reports of U.S. upcoming announcement of $1 billion arms sale to Taiwan.
Quoting an official source from the U.S., an article on Bloomberg said that the Obama administration had decided to announce its $1 billion arms sale to Taiwan in the middle of next month.
The article also said Washington had been prepared for a strong reaction from Beijing and the U.S. government wants to allow a sufficient interval before Taiwan's upcoming election in mid-January.
The Taiwan issue bears upon China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is a core interest of China. China's determination to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity is unswerving. This is China's consistent position, said Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for MND on a regular press conference on Nov. 26.
