Taipei, Dec. 2 (CNA) No military aircraft from China have entered Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) since Beijing's recent demarcation of an ADIZ over the East China Sea, Defense Minister Yen Ming said Monday.

Part of China's new ADIZ overlaps with Taiwan's, but no Chinese military aircraft have been spotted in Taiwan's air defense zone, Yen said at a hearing in the Legislature's Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee.

Since China announced the new ADIZ on Nov. 23, there have been 13 sightings of U.S. military aircraft in the ADIZ and 85 instances of Japanese aircraft entering the zone, a Taiwanese military official Ko Wen-an said at the hearing, citing information collected by the military.

Ko, deputy chief of the General Staff for intelligence, said China has sent its military aircraft to the area 55 times since its designation of the new ADIZ.

There were three instances in which Chinese military aircraft were in close proximity to aircraft from Japan or the United States, he said.

The planes were very close to each other, Ko repeated, when asked by lawmaker Hsiao Bi-khim of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party on whether China had intercepted any foreign aircraft in its new ADIZ.

At the hearing, Yen agreed that Beijing's demarcation of the new ADIZ was an 'unfriendly' move.

Although part of China's newly designated ADIZ overlaps with Taiwan's, Beijing 'did not consult with us beforehand,' he said.

The legislative committee invited officials from the ministries of national defense, foreign affairs, transportation and communications and National Security Bureau to give their assessments of the situation following China's declaration of the ADIZ.

China on Nov. 23 announced its demarcation of the new ADIZ that includes the disputed Diaoyutai Islands, which are also claimed by Taiwan and Japan, and is asking to be notified of any flights passing through the zone.
