Taipei, Nov. 22 (CNA) Despite no diplomatic ties between them, Taiwan's security cooperation with the United States has reached an all-time peak, President Ma Ying-jeou said Friday.
At a meeting with foreign correspondents in Taiwan, Ma said that his administration has overseen a restoration of 'high-level mutual trust' since he took office in 2008, proven by the value of weapons sales to Taiwan.
The U.S. has sold three packages of arms to Taiwan worth a total of US$18.3 billion -- the highest amount recorded in nearly two decades, he said.
Strong relations benefit both countries, Ma said, citing then-U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's 2011 comment that Taiwan is an 'important security and economic partner of the U.S.'
'We have no doubts that these relations will not undergo changes, as they are very important in terms of Taiwan's international participation and cross-strait relations,' Ma said.
