Taipei, Nov. 11 (CNA) President Ma Ying-jeou said Monday his administration hopes to continue to develop Taiwan's relations with mainland China on the basis of the '1992 consensus,' which allows 'one China, different interpretations.'

Ma said the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are ethnic Chinese and share common descent, and he proposed that the two governments work toward 'mutual non-denial' although they do not recognize each other's sovereignty.

He also reiterated his pledge not to promote the concepts of 'two Chinas,' 'one China, one Taiwan' or 'Taiwan independence.'

The president, who serves concurrently as chairman of the ruling Kuomintang, was speaking during a meeting of the party's Central Advisory Council.
