Taipei, July 31 (CNA) Admiral Chen Yung-kang, vice chief of the General Staff, took over as commander of the Republic of China Navy Wednesday as part of senior-level changes in Taiwan's military following a Cabinet reshuffle earlier in the week.
Chen became vice chief of the General Staff in Aug. 2012 after serving as president of the National Defense University for a year.
Before that, he held other senior positions including fleet commander and head of Taiwan's military liaison office in Washington, D.C.
He succeeded Adm. Tung Hsiang-lung, who was named minister of the Veterans Affairs Commission in the reshuffle on Monday.
Also on Wednesday, Deputy Minister of National Defense Andrew Yang succeeded Kao Hua-chu as the defense minister. Kao stepped down in the aftermath of the death of Army Corporal Hung Chung-chiu.
