Taipei, July 2 (CNA) Taiwan will hold a five-day computer-aided war game later this month to test the country's defense capabilities amid a growing military threat from China, according to the Ministry of National Defense.
The computerized drills, the second part of Taiwan's annual Han Kuang military exercises, are aimed at testing the military's combat readiness in the event of attacks by Chinese forces, ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Luo Shou-he said late Monday.
Chief of General Staff Gen. Yen Ming will supervise the round-the-clock drills to be staged around Taiwan from July 15-19, Luo said.
He would not confirm a report published Monday that said the computerized drills will simulate an attack in 2017 involving China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning.
"The defense ministry will not comment on details (of the drills)," he told CNA.
The Han Kuang exercises are Taiwan's most important war games involving the country's Army, Air Force and Navy.
The first phase of the exercises were held around Taiwan over five days in April. The war games, which included a live-fire drill in outlying Penghu County, tested the armed forces ability to fend off a simulated invasion by Chinese forces.
