Taipei, Nov. 9 (CNA) Premier Sean Chen said Friday the upgrading of cross-Taiwan Strait economic dialogue should take priority over political issues between both sides.
"It would be more pragmatic for Taiwan if cross-strait dialogue on economic issues could be upgraded," the premier said.
His remarks were made at a legislative question-and-answer session in response to a question by Legislator Lo Ming-tsai of the ruling Kuomintang on whether the Cabinet would respond to General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Hu Jintao's call for both sides to engage in political dialogues soon and to sign a peace agreement.
Lo also asked if the premier had a good understanding of the anointed next leader Xi Jinping and if he had any relatives in Taiwan.
In response, Chen said that Xi has relatives in Taiwan, but they are distantly related.
He also noted that he did not know Xi personally and that the Mainland Affairs Council has detailed information on him and other new leaders.
