Taipei, Oct. 3 (CNA) A Taiwanese military pilot died in a crash during a flight training in France Wednesday, Taiwan's Air Force confirmed late that day.
The Air Force confirmed a French report earlier that day that a Taiwanese pilot, who was training in a Mirage 2000-5 at the Luxeuil-les-Bains airfield in the east of France, died in a crash.
The pilot, Wang Tung-yi, 37, was a member of the Air Force Base in Hsinchu, northern Taiwan, according to the Air Force Headquarters.
According to the Radio France Internationale report, local people said they saw a "ball of fire" crash into a wooded area about 500 meters from a group of houses on Wednesday morning.
An inquiry has been opened to find out the reasons for the accident, the report said.
The Air Force said it will send a team to France to look for more details of the crash.
