Taipei, Dec. 12 (CNA) An army attack helicopter plunged to the ground during a regular training flight Monday in central Taiwan, causing no casualties to its crew of two but leaving the aircraft partially damaged, according to a military statement released after the incident.
The accident occurred when the U.S.-made AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopter moved toward the ground much faster than usual during a simulated engine failure training session at a military base in the Xinshe district of Taichung, said the statement released by the Army Aviation Special Forces Command.
Following the accident, the army suspended training operations for all of its AH-1W helicopters pending safety checks. A task force was also set up to investigate the cause of the crash, the statement added.
The crash damaged the helicopter's tail section and cannon, according to the statement.
