Taipei, June 29 (CNA) Several Taiwanese lawmakers are scheduled to visit the United States in July and will urge the U.S. government to approve the sale of F-16C/D fighters and a visa-waiver for Taiwan.

Members from the ROC (Taiwan)-USA Inter-Parliamentary Amity Association (RIAA) are scheduled to visit the U.S. July 6-18. Their itinerary reveals the political expediency of their mission -- the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. House of Representatives, and the military bases in Arizona.

Mark Li, head of the RIAA, said the purpose of the visit is to strengthen relationships between the two sides, and to urge the U.S. to sign an extradition agreement with Taiwan and to support Taiwan's participation in international organizations.

Visiting members from the group include Kuomintang (KMT) legislators Mark Li, Liao Wan-ju, Herman Shuai, Hsu Shao-ping, Kuo Su-chun, and Chen Shu-huei, and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Twu Shiing-jer. (By Chen W.T. and Ann Chen) enditem/ly
