Taipei, April 11 (CNA) The annual Hankuang drill began Monday with an anti-landing operation in northern Taiwan.
In the drill, the "enemy" made up of soldiers of the Huatung Defense command in eastern Taiwan, was trying to make a landing at the mouth of the Danshui River in New Taipei City.
The invading force's incursion was stopped by a platoon from the Guandu Defense Command with the deployment of torpedoes, floating boats, barricades and oil booms in the water, along with a barrage of gunfire from land
Two AH-1W helicopters were also ready to take on the enemy had it marched to the Guandu Bridge, just about 10 kilometers away from Taiwan's capital of Taipei.
The scenario was canceled due to bad weather that prevented the helicopters from taking off.
The military exercise will continue in the next few days in various parts of the country.
