Shanghai, Dec. 14 (CNA) Top negotiators representing Taiwan and China are scheduled to hold their sixth meeting since 2008 in Taipei Dec. 20-22, during which a cross-Taiwan Strait medical and health cooperation agreement is expected to be signed, officials said Tuesday.
Officials of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) and China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) made the announcement after holding a pre-meeting consultation in Shanghai.
The consultation, between SEF Deputy Chairman Kao Koong-lian and ARATS Vice President Zheng Lizhong, confirmed the schedule and agenda of the Taipei meeting.
The text of the medical and health cooperation agreement was also examined to make sure it meets the targets of both parties.
In terms of a cross-strait investment protection accord, SEF officials said some details remain to be settled and so it will not be ready for inking by the chief delegates during the meeting.
According to the conference schedule, ARATS President Chen Yunlin will head a delegation that will arrive in Taipei Dec. 20. His Taiwanese counterpart, SEF Chairman Chiang Pin-kung, will greet him and escort him on a tour of the National Palace Museum that same day.
On Dec. 21, Chiang and Chen will sign the medical cooperation pact, the 15th agreement they will have signed since their first meeting in 2008 following the inauguration of President Ma Ying-jeou.
Mainland Affairs Council Chairwoman Lai Shin-yuan will meet Chen and his delegation later that day.
Kao said there are no plans for President Ma Ying-jeou to meet with Chen and his delegation.
On the final day of the visit, the delegates will visit the Flora Expo in Taipei before returning to China.
