Taipei, Nov. 10 (CNA) President Ma Ying-jeou again urged Washington Wednesday to sell F-16 C/D fighters to Taiwan, calling the sale one of the most important issues in current Taiwan-U.S. ties.
Two other equally important matters are the inclusion of Taiwan in the U.S. visa-waiver program and the signing of an extradition agreement between the two countries, Ma told visiting members of the U.S. House of Representatives Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) and Jim McDermott (D-Wash.).
Ma said he was deeply moved by the firm friendship displayed by the two congressmen for Taiwan, as demonstrated by their visit immediately after the conclusion of the U.S. midterm elections.
He also thanked McDermott for his long-standing support for the signing of a Taiwan-U.S. free trade agreement. (By Garfie Li and Y.F. Low) ENDITEM/ls
