Taipei, Nov. 9 (CNA) An estimated 1.15 percent of military personnel will be unable to cast their ballots in municipality elections Nov. 27, a Ministry of National Defense (MND) official said Tuesday.
The ministry has drawn up measures to ensure that war preparedness will remain as normal during the elections, while trying to minimize the impact of this preparedness on the right of military personnel to vote in the elections, said Hau Yi-chi, director of the MND Joint Warfare Planning Department.
These measures include setting shift changes for noon on election day to allow military personnel to return home to vote, he explained.
Each branch of the armed services was instructed to draw up its Nov. 27 service schedule one month in advance.
The MND added military personnel not on war-preparedness duty are free to take the day off to vote in the elections, which will take place in Taipei City and the four new special municipalities set to come into existence at the end of the year. (By Emmanuelle Tzeng and Elizabeth Hsu) enditem/MH
