Beijing, Dec. 21 (CNA) China's Taiwan affairs chief dismissed allegations of a lack of transparency in the upcoming new round of trade negotiations with Taiwan, as China's top negotiator left Beijing for the island Monday.
Wang Yi, director of China's Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said at the Beijing Capital International Airport prior to the Chinese delegation's departure that the agenda for the fourth round of China-Taiwan trade talks was determined by both sides and that there were no secret meetings.
"We hope that the people of Taiwan would understand the real situation and get the correct information," he said.
Wang's remarks came one day after Taiwan's opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) staged a large-scale rally to protest the Chinese delegation's visit.
Chen Yunlin, chairman of China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) , was scheduled to arrive in Taiwan later in the day for talks with his Taiwanese counterpart Chiang Pin-kung, Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF).
The SEF and ARATS are quasi-official organizations designated by the governments of Taiwan and China, respectively, to handle cross-strait dealings in the absence of official contact between the two sides.
During the meeting this week, Taiwan and China are expected to sign four economic agreements on fishing crew cooperation, agricultural quarantine inspection, industrial product standards, inspection and certification, and the avoidance of double taxation.
